The proposal re-establishes the historical Neapolitan landscape that straddles the hill and the city, the land and the sea.
The reconnections are defined by alternating new structures over the railway, or by recovering, enhancing and securing a series of existing subways. These transversal gestures accompany the new mobility lines for pedestrians, cyclists and railways planned for the new waterfront, guaranteeing the necessary permeability of the territory.
Viaducts, like the bridges of the old city walls, allow not only traffic, but also to shape the territory. They are defined, through their light and semi-transparent nature, as veils that progressively unveil the territory. They mark the principal elements, which coincide with the presence of the ancient roads to the interior and therefore also towards Vesuvius. They are therefore essential to the safety of the urban fabric in the event of evacuation.
The new infrustructures articulate and interconnect the urban fabric by developing, facilitating and enhancing the salient points of the cultural tourism itinerary of these areas linked to the historical and artistic individualities of the villas of the Miglio D’oro.
